10 Mile Lower Farmington River Trip

The longer 10-mile flat water trip begins at the boat launch entrance on Rt. 4 across from Modern Tire on Route 4 in Farmington. The Lower Farmington is the route recommended for any paddler who wants to get out on the river and disappear into the quiet of bucolic valley scenery. You’ll roll with ease by grassy fields, low mountains, manicured golf courses, and the landmark Heublein Tower. Interestingly, this section of the river flows north which is an oddity in North American rivers.

A little shorter trip can be arranged by pick-up at the Nod Brook Nature Trail off of Rt. 10 in Simsbury, or at our regular pick-up point at the Simsbury Bridge off of Route 185. That’s about 4 hours.

For a really eventful end to this adventure, just walk across the road to the famous Pinchot Sycamore Tree and then head another 500 yards further to have an afternoon beer or cocktail at Abigail’s Grille. When you’re done – Uber or Lyft yourself back to our parking lot in New Hartford! We’ll handle boat pick-up.

Main Stream Canoes and Kayaks makes it easy for everyone – book your trip, arrive at our base store, get fitted with a life jacket and paddle, receive instruction if you need it, and we take you and your water craft to your starting point!
